Fortnum Group Sponsors

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

MIC and Stratus Staff

The Fortnum Group have been regular sponsors of the KWS Fund over the past few years supporting students with financial assistance to attend MIC. Brett and Ros were invited to attend a morning tea recently hosted by Brett Cribb at Stratus Financial Group offices to meet members of the Charity Board. MIC is lucky to have sponsors from a wide range of business connections. Without this support some students dreams of attending MIC would not be possible.

Theatre Sports & Drama Class Update

Theatre Sports
Theatre SportsA Music Industry College Theatre Sports team competed against five other schools in the Youth Theatre Sports competition last Thursday evening at St. Joseph’s College (Terrace). Considering it was our first competition we did extremely well – we were strong in teamwork, storytelling and humour and did well to entertain the audience each round. MIC’s team were awarded ‘moment of the night’ and have been told they are in the running for a wildcard entry to the quarter finals. This is a fantastic outcome and testament to the training and efforts put in by our team. Stay tuned for more details if our team progresses to the quarter finals. Well done!

Drama
Last month the Youth dramaTouring Program from QMF and Backbone Youth Arts visited MIC and performed a show called ‘An Experiment with Caucasian Chalk Circle’. In this show “Two actors walk on stage after watching a professional production of Bertolt Brecht’s The Caucasian Chalk Circle. The pair begin to discuss the story they have just seen and soon become embroiled in their own retelling of Grusha Vashnadze’s journey, sharing with the audience her fight to save and raise an abandoned child.” The production used contemporary language, story-telling and humour to help our students understand Brecht’s famous play The Caucasian Chalk Circle and Brechtian theatre techniques.Students enjoyed the performance immensely. Over the past two weeks, students have themselves performed excerpts from The Caucasian Child Circle as part of their drama assessment. We have enjoyed watching their interpretations of Brecht’s classic text.

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

The Next Step survey, undertaken by the Queensland Government, targets all students who completed Year 12 and gained a Senior Statement in 2014, whether they attended a government, Catholic or independent school, or a TAFE secondary college. The Queensland Government Statistician’s Office conducted the survey between March and June 2015, approximately six months after the young people left school. Responses were collected online and via computer-assisted telephone interviewing.

Statewide and regional reports from the Next Step survey will be available on the Next Step website in September 2015 at www.education.qld.gov.au/nextstep.
