Our Staff

Our focus at MIC is on building a team of professional and dedicated teachers and trainers that have current and relevant experience in the Music Industry.

Brett Wood:

Brett has a Bachelor of Education and spent sixteen years teaching in the Queensland State system before leaving to found The Spot, a youth training and education centre in Logan City.

Brett is the Managing Director of Music Industry Community Services, the parent body of the College and Starving Kids, and has overseen all projects undertaken by both organisations since their inception. He is one of the founders of the Starving Kids record label that has released debut recordings for The Winnie Coopers, Ellington, The Paper and The Plane and a host of others.

Kristin Fergusson:

Kristin has a Bachelor of Science and a Graduate Diploma in Education, she began tutoring mathematics in 1987 and teaching Geography and Mathematics in Queensland State and Independent High Schools in 1991. Before joining MIC, Kristin was the Co-ordinator of Maths at St Peter Claver College.

Kristin has a rich history of playing in Brisbane bands during the 80s and 90s, she currently plays the bass guitar in a local surf band, The Ripz and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her husband and five children.

Blair Hughes:

Blair is currently teaching Film and TV at MIC and has previously taught in the UK. He has also spent three years working at the Zoo Nightclub in Brisbane as well as a year at the Hammersmith Apollo in London.

Charlie Thomson:

Charlie has spent the past eight years teaching at a number of high schools and youth training facilities. At the same time he has pursued a career in the music industry with his Aussie hip-hop crew The Winnie Coopers. In 2005 The Winnie Coopers won a MusicOz Award for their song, Success, which was later added to Triple J rotation. The Triple J airplay resulted in national tours and numerous festival appearances. The Winnie Coopers have now released three albums and Charlie has a wealth of knowledge and experience to share with the students at the College.

Andrew Kennedy:

Andrew is a self-produced solo artist who has released a number of recordings. His 2008 single “Suicide Tuesday” was a finalist in the 2008 Q Song songwriting competition. When he is not teaching music to our students he can be found teaching guitar, playing gigs around town and recording in his home studio. Andrew is also qualified to deliver VET courses and will assist students in their pursuit of their Certificate III in Music Industry (Business).
